Customers routinely call and ask us to either the schedule an appointment for a “Tune-Up” or a price quote for a “Tune-Up”. The outdated term is still widely used by many people to describe a service procedure that's supposed to make an engine run better.  The problem is there is no such thing as a tune-up in the traditional sense of replacing parts to bring the ignition and fuel systems up to specs for maximum performance and efficiency, and there hasn't been for years.
What do you truly mean when you call and ask your mechanic for a Tune-UP?
Many of us remember calling our mechanic and saying its been 12,000 miles I need a Tune-Up. Today, if you  look in your owner’s manual for what maintenance the manufacturer recommends you will not find the word “Tune-Up”.

Most customers requesting a tune-up are really looking for one of four things
  1. Diagnosis and repair of a problem that is causint the Check Engine light to be on.
  2. Drivability issues such as hard starting, not getting the fuel mileage, it once did, hesitating or stalling, knocking or not running with the same zip as before.
  3. Preventative Maintenance Spark Plug Replacement.
  4. An Oil Change

When you call your favorite mechanic be specific about what you are looking for or what are the symptoms causing you to want to bring your car to the shop and spend your hard-earned money.   Having your vehicle serviced and inspected periodically is a good way to extend its life and keep it operating efficiently so give us a call and let us assist you in determining what preventative maintenance items are required for your car based on its age and mileage.
